CurT@!n$ Live at Leaders of the New Cool

CurT@!n$ Live at Leaders of the New Cool LA from CurT@!n$ on Vimeo. CurT@!n$ was a surprise guest performer at the Leaders of the New Cool stop in LA.

ThreatZ - Exhibit A

HiCLAS! - Astronaut Rock

More HiCLAS!, he's just tearing up everything at will because he's nice like that and he can. Similar to XV's Gobstopper track, this one gets killed. Download it, enjoy it, spread it around & repost it on your blogs because homie needs to be heard.

D-Sisive - Die In Amsterdam

D-Sisive finally hits us with another video from his album "Let The Children Die". A very dark single but i have always loved this track

J.Cole - I Can Bus

Some more unreleased heat from back in 03 from the Roc Nation lyricist.

Tim Lawrence - Mistaken Hearts (Feat. Brey Quick)

This is that brand new, across the pond music featuring Brey Quick. Tim Lawrence is out of England, while Brey hails for North Carolina as we all know. Its the First track off of a collaborative album from Tim and Brey call, "International Ghosts" coming very soon.

Lupe Fiasco Cancelling His Mixtape Plans AGAIN

Referring to Enemy of the State...
"I was plotting on doing the follow-up to that," Lupe said. "Simply because [Enemy of the State] was short. And I felt like it was space to do another one. I was gonna do another one called Friend to the People, but I started to get wind that people had songs they shouldn't have had. I was like, 'This is just gonna open the floodgates if I come out with another record. I know these dudes are threatening to leak records and do crazy stuff.' Sometimes I feel there may be too much Lupe music out there — whether it be old stuff or new stuff or freestyles. I don't want to have a ton of music sitting out. I made the decision to fall back from it and really focus on the climb. We were a couple of weeks away from doing that"

DJ Absolute tape...
"With this Absolute tape, I had to tell him straight up, 'We homeboys, and you got all this old music, but it ain't time right now. It's too much going on. It's too many people with music they shouldn't have, and I don't want to get it clouded,' " said Lupe, who's putting out his third LP, Lasers, this summer. The lead cut from the album, "I'm Beaming," was recently leaked without Lupe's consent."

"There's investigations going on," he said. "So let's just postpone that and wait until we got a clearer time to do it. Even with that, we're going in to Lasers. The one thing I don't want with that is confusion. I want the message to at least connect until we get to the release date. After that, we can do whatever. Right now, it's Lasers time."

Brey Quick - Gobstopper

So the other day, I pitched this instrumental over to Brey Quick and he was more than excited about this track produced by Seven. Homie hit me within a few minutes, FROM ICELAND mind you, saying "Im READY!" The time difference didn't stop him from working on his music that's for sure.. "its 511am... I woke up out of nowhere... Saw the tweet.. Heard the beat... Im ready to rock.."

King Mez - Nowhere To Go (Feat. Thee Tom Hardy)

I never bumped any King Mez before but this is a dope start. Everything about this track screams originality right now. Its the lead single off King Mez’s album The Paraplegics. Quite the track, check it out.

Mos Def - The Tournament

Unreleased material from the mighty Mos Def via HHU (via FSD). This joint is hard as all hell. Sample work is on point. This seems like something that SHOULD HAVE been on The Ecstatic. But nevertheless, enjoy!

Lupe Fiasco on Invasion Radio

Nero - Far Away From Here (Prod. by Woody)

Nero's back at it, after shutting it down for nearly 8 months musically. But then again, are we really gonna call it a shut down? Because you KNEW this was coming didn't you? Now the most interesting thing about this whole track is that, as I listen, the whole tone reminds me of another young artist... Charles Hamilton. Now some of you kids out there are probably thinking "oh no.. not Sonic the Hamilton.. he's nothing like Nero." But if you check the content of the lyrics, the openness of the concept and his ability to isolate himself (between his past problems & situations) you'll notice he allows himself to be vulnerable at times in order to speak the truth, this is definitely a skill Charles Hamilton is known for. With that mentality, he cannot fail... well unless he decides to lie about some J Dilla input on his project and get lit up by his girl on video. But I'm sure Nero will fly where Charles has fallen, so enjoy the track

John Dew - Summertime Johnny

Ok so I'm taking a late pass on this one. But John Dew's Summertime Johnny is some good music coming out of Houston, Texas. Ironically he's worked with Hollywood FLOSS, which didn't catch my eye until after I already downloaded it. Nice southern style, good bars and a couple of dope beats to match. Hopefully we see some more of John Dew soon.

 1. Hardtop
 2. Hostile
 3. Here I go
 4. All You Want
 5. Make It Good
 6. Bring It Back (ft. Hollywood Floss)

Jay Electronica: Brooklyn Bodega Interview

Brooklyn Bodega got a short sitdown with Jay Electronica recently and we've got the info they picked up right here. Brooklyn Bodega thankfully went an unconventional route and asked some questions that are worth checking up on. No boring stuff here, which is not what I can say for more interviews.

Little Brother – Life of the Party Pt. II (Prod. Nottz)

New Gerald Walker featuring Bryant Stewart. They really make dope music together, produced by The Commission. Check it out, add it to your ipods and zunes, you know how you do.
Just stopping by once again to bring you some new material. My Chi city fam Gerald Walker just released a fresh new joint entitled "Focused" in which he goes in on along side St Louis' very own Bryant Stewart. These two have been getting it in for some time now and will be getting it in a lot more often this year, who knows we might even see a collab project in the upcoming months. All I can really say is expect greatness from these two in 2010. Thanks you for your time and hope you enjoy "Focused".

TreaZon - Breathe Life 2 (Cover x Tracklisting)

Breathe Life 2 coming soon! Release date if February 2nd. Thats less than a week, mark it down in your calendars. Tracklist is down below.

HiCLAS - Everlasting Gobstopper [Freestyle]

So I have already determined that out of the 97548736490230921874 MCs that are going to hop on XV's recently released instrumentals to his mixtape Everybody's Nobody, only 3 rappers are actually going to be good. This is one of them.

Thirty Seconds To Mars

Well since Natac did it, I'm gonna post some other shit for yall too. I was first introduced to Thirty Seconds to Mars by the single they released with Kanye. It was hot, so I decided to look into their whole album. Lo and behold...shit was dope. Its by no means hip-hop. Not even close. But is hip-hop the only musical genre out there? nope. Is it the only genre with good music? HELL NO. So open your ears. You will probably enjoy it. This is the intro of their last album This Is War.

TreaZon - I'm So Appalled Freestyle

Dragonball Tuxedo TreaZ Kenshin aka The Human Being Who Can Fly aka Pick 1 Alias And Stick With It drops off this freestyle he did over I'm So Appalled. Mad cool points if you catch every punch he drops. Holla! Look out for Breathe Life 2 coming to a real hip hopper's computer near you.

eLZhi – Untitled (prod. Nick Speed) [Radio Rip]

So I'm about to go on a boycott and not post eLZhi's music. How you going tell us about Elmatic, drop 2 crazy SNIPPETS and never mention it again? Imagine if Frank Lucas put out Blue magic and a week later went on with the Red Magic next week like shit ain't never happen? Like you don't need your musical fix? Yeah, I'm reaching...but so what? BUT I DIGRESS....apparently this track was recorded in Nick Speed's living room waaaaaaay back in the day. he released it to some radio show, blah blah blah...here is the track.

J*DaVeY - Boudoir Synema: The Great Mistapes

First of all.. wow. I peeped the joint "Get Together" as Gordon Gartrell Radio was going on and I haveto say J*Davey empresses. I figured I'd hand this off to anybody else who is interested in checking out their EP. Really different stuff, amazing at the very least. I'm going to have to track these 2 down and see if we can see what they have planned next. Not necessarily hip-hop but then again, I can't give J*Davey a genre at all right now. ***Get Together is track 4. Check it out, its got some real dope vocals.

Last Little Brother Album?

Sad news. Taken from HHU. All the info is via the big homie Clif Soulo. Enjoy the episode.
A new episode of Gordon Gartrell Radio! Phonte touches on his personal life, Tiger Woods, The Illuminati/Jay-Z ish, and the status of Little Brother. I wish it wasn't so, but the time has come. Little Brother is releasing their 4th, and last album. It's bittersweet, but I'm glad and thankful that they are atleast dropping one more album and not pulling an Outkast on the fans. "Leftback" will be the title and is dropping around March or April (hopefully). Whenever it drops, I'll definitely be purchasing it.
Peace, Clif Soulo

Choze: Inside the Mind Interview

The homie Hailmegatron decided to interview my artist and Sound Society frequent Choze. This interview seems like it went down recently (if not last night). Nevertheless it popped up today and its a good set of 15 questions if you're looking check on the mans history. Hail does it again, this guy doesn't sleep.

Doom: An interview with Eye Weekly

This article goes deep into the career of MF Doom and alot of his intentions for his music. It also touches on whether the character Doom sometimes oversteps his boundaries as far as offensive material. Then of course they discuss the controversy of Doom impostors. For the record this article is detailed as all hell. One of the most extensive interviews we've ever seen on Doom. Throw Stones has their own batch of into to include here as well:

Via Throw Stones

“Cruel Intentions” written by Dave Morris and published in Toronto's Eye Weekly, Jan. 21, 2010. Illustration by Jack Dylan.

For a self-described supervillain, hip-hop MC and producer DOOM has a lot of fans. But with a reputation that’s steadily growing more sinister, is DOOM’s creator trying to alienate his audience — or does this character have an evil mind of its own?

REL!G!ON - Lucid (Feat. Moka Only & E.D.G.E.)

Wow some of the illest production ive heard in awhile with some very solid verses from Moka and EDGE

Rihanna – Redemption Song Live On Oprah (Video)

....Yeah man, this was absolute trash. Truthfully, the only reason I posted it was so I can link you guys to this. Funniest and TRUEST thing I read all day.

"if you honestly think this is “from the heart” you should exterminate your life force immediately"

Natac Update: Where's Kanye when you need him?

KEEN-Â¥ – Zodiak! (Beat Tape)

By no means is this beat tape new...technically speaking. It was released sometime in early September 2009 but some how I just came across it. Speaking quite frankly....it's dope. Real smooth beats, but not that everyday-kinda-oh-its-just-mellow-type-of-beat. Yeah I know...hell of an explanation right? Well thats why I'm going to let KEEN-Â¥ explain it:

QuESt - Exhibit Q

Quest goes in over Jay Electronica's now monumental record. Personally i've been getting tired of the overuse of this beat lately, but Quest can definitely hold his own. Quest's mixtape "How Thoughtful" with DJ RTC is set to drop February 11th.

Song Of The Day: Lil Big Yung - My Swag

From what I've heard, theres not a whole lot coming from this Houston talent. But this joint is hilarious and a pretty dope parody all around. Once you get into it, you'll really begin to dig it, I promise you that.
"I gotta new game/ we rockin polkadots/ we fashionable thugs/ watcha boy talkin bout"

Lil Big Yung - My Swag

Lil Big Yung - My Swag (Instrumental)

Dmack Update: When I saw the title of the post I was like "Did Natac lose his god damn mind?!" But then I listened to the track and its pure L-O-L

QuESt - The Reason: The Documentary [Presented By ImFlashy]

A true story. I pretty much watched QuESt come up and he's honestly one of the fastest up & comers to date. As far as getting co-signs from 2Dope & Illroots, he pretty much tells the story. It just goes to show all you rappers out there, you have to get up to a VERY VERY high level of lyricism and conceptual depth just to complete with guys like this, in the blog world, but once you get there, there are no limits. Welcome to the jungle boys...
So let me give you quick insight on this project, back in December I went to check out the MULTIVERSAL show headlined by Shawn Chrystopher, Jovi Rockwell and QuESt. Before it was time for QuESt to get on stage I decided to introduce myself and let him know how I felt about his music, then pitched him the idea about doing a short documentary. He was down but we didn’t start until like a month later.
With that said that brings us to this short clip at his Barbershop which was our first stop on an extensive day of filming. In the footage QuESt discusses the blog where he first built his exposure with Waxx from illroots and how Shake of 2dopeboyz apologized for sleeping on him.

Avatar Plot Fail (a Pocahontas carbon copy?)

Via Failblog. So apparently the plot for Avatar is just a carbon copy of Pocahontas. Sure its not Hip hop news. And no I dont care. And yes I know its grammatically incorrect to start a sentence with and. Lets move on.

Dan Black - Symphonies (Remix) (Feat. Kid Cudi)

This remix is dope. Re-sampling the drums from Umbrella? Not so dope. Its works regardless though. Great track once you get past the repetition of that drum loop.

Brey Quick & Mike J In Iceland

Check it out, we got Brey being Brey real quick along with his homie Mike J in Iceland (where they play Pro basketball). Who else thinks we should have a BreyQuickTV series?

Copyright Criminals: A Documentary On The History Of Sampling

"Copyright Criminals examines the creative and commercial value of musical sampling, including the related debates over artistic expression, copyright law, and (of course) money. This documentary traces the rise of hip-hop from the urban streets of New York to its current status as a multibillion-dollar industry. For more than thirty years, innovative hip-hop performers and producers have been re-using portions of previously recorded music in new, otherwise original compositions. When lawyers and record companies got involved, what was once referred to as a “borrowed melody” became a “copyright infringement.”The film showcases many of hip-hop music’s founding figures like Public Enemy, De La Soul, and Digital Underground—while also featuring emerging hip-hop artists from record labels Definitive Jux, Rhymesayers, Ninja Tune, and more."
Copyright Criminals airs January 19th on PBS and the film will be available from indiepixfilms.com on January 26th.

Turbo - Bicycle

Apparently this track dropped back in 07 but this video is new. Either way i was just put on to this and i gotta say Turbo got some flow. Real different and abstract video.

Jimmy Kimmel Ethers Jay Leno

Jimmy Kimmel Ethers Jay Leno on Jay Leno's show. You could make the arguement that this isn't Hip Hop but who cares about what Officer Irrelevant thinks? Ethered on NATIONAL TV! ON YOUR OWN SHOW! Priceless!

Bryant Stewart - Blame It On The Game (Remix) (Feat. Gerald Walker)

New Gerald Walker! well kind of. This time Bryant Stewart recruits Mr. Walker to remix Blame It On the game. This track is dope and Bryant Stewart has my respect for this one. The rest of the info is Via Kev. Fairbanks.
Bryant Stewart team up with Milwaukee/Chicago based artist Gerald Walker for a remix of Stewart's song "Blame It On The Game". Featured on Bryant Stewart's mixtape "A Perfect Change" both artist discuss the music industry and its adverse effects on them as artist.

DOX - Beautiful Girl

DOX has been getting on alot great singers on these recent songs of his. He never really struck me as the average rapper and its times like these that I'm glad I gave him a shot by posting him. Great concept from the homie on this one. Production is on point, the hook is dope & DOX is showing alot of promise. Please familiarize yourself with DOX and check this joint out!

Summit On The Summit: Final Destination

Basic Vocab - Prescription (Prod. by Illastrate)

Ok so this guy is new to the site so his people at MAC Media pretty much have all the info for you. Its a brief bit of info and the song is below. Solid stuff from Basic Vocab, nice production and better bars. Check it below.
After releasing their debut, The General Dynamic, in 2006, Basic Vocab would go on to be featured in Vibe, Urb, XLR8R Magazines (among many) and most of the esteemed Urban Net destinations as well. Their debut was given an extra boost by the LP's breakout single "Come Get With It" which was featured on HBO's wildly popular show Entourage (Season 5, Episode 8) and Miami Ink. Their appearance on Entourage resulted in over 250K Net plays of "Come Get With It."
In April of 2010, Basic Vocab (JL Sorrell, Mental Growth and Tony Galvin) will return with their sophomore LP, A Better Way, which once is primarily produced by Tony Galvin (who has produced tracks for T.I., Young Jeezy, Trick Daddy, Trina and Nelly).
After leaking "There You Are" f/Donwill (of Tanya Morgan) before the holidays, here is the second leak, "Prescription," from Basic Vocab's sophomore effort A Better Way.

Rapper Big Pooh - The Purple Tape

So I was listening to The Song of The Day, and realized this wasn't posted. Now I have no idea how this slipped my mind, but its dope. Rapper Big Pooh raps over Black Milk Instrumentals that sample Prince. Prince x Rapper Big Pooh x Black Milk? How can you go wrong? Stream it below, and download it....I know you will.

&lt;a href="http://rapperbigpooh.bandcamp.com/album/the-purple-tape"&gt;When I'm Done by Rapper Big Pooh&lt;/a&gt;

Song of The Day

AGAIN. Phonte>>>Than your favorite rapper. Some of you might be like "Naw son chill...." but yo tell this song and his verse isn't CRAZY nice and I will stop blogging

"This is the last stop, last chance, last train to greatness
Last pain I take within my own chance
For Hip Hop, I feel I got to take a strong stance
I'm sick of that bullshit, hell I'm a grown ass man
I had to sit back, think, pause and recline
Gain a sense of myself while I'm caught in the grind
I could just throw some words together and call it a rhyme
But I'm tryna change the world eight bars at a time
That's what deep thoughts will do to you kid
Have you thinking bout existence and how hard it usually is
I'm kinda young but I ain't new to the biz
Just wanna hear my beats knock like past opportunities did
Phonte still burning it - rhymes so ahead of his time
I reminisce and see future occurrences"

Lupe Fiasco - I'm Beaming

This track is one the best of 2010 right now, if not the best. That chorus has some CRAZY synth instrumentation too. This whole track is amazing. Spotted at Yung Nate's DWND.net. Below we have the main version and the Promo pack (Clean/Dirty/Instrumental) below for all you radio DJs to spin without losing your jobs and MCs who think you can do it better than Fiasco.

: To all you rappers about to try it............DON'T. You won't be able to do it better...willing to prove me wrong? Ha...

Sean Price - Duck Down (feat. Skyzoo & Torae)

Ok so you KNOW these verses are crazy when you have Skyzoo going first, Torae second & Sean Price finishing it off. They all kill it. Presented by NahRight Directed by Court Dunn and filmed by Restless films.

Wiz Khalifa - Say Ahh

Came out yesterday. I can't get enough of this song, aside from its hilarity, its one of the few club songs I can really get into. Wiz gets it in. Enjoy it!

Skyzoo Married to Sharlee Jeter

Apologies to Skyzoo for the fuckery these guys are partaking in on the radio. But in all seriousness, this is crazy. We have the recording from the WFAN radio show below.

Brey Quick - She Bomb (Prod. Brey Quick)

New Brey Quick... All the way from Iceland? (*Drake voice* Yeaaa all the way from it). For those who thought Brey was done just because he's now playing professional basketball in iceland... well you were wrong... DEAD WRONG! North Carolina's finest still continues to produce and record from Iceland in his spare time.

B.o.b. - The Biz

B.o.b. goes in over the Mobb Deep classic for his first leak off his upcoming mixtape. May 25th the debut album "The Adventures Of Bobby Ray" hits the street.

Neako - Back To The Set (feat. Wiz Khalifa)

First of all, LMFAO at Wiz Khalifa's face on this picture, this man is BEYOND wasted. But anyways, Neako's Junk Food Mixtape is on the way so stay tuned.
