Charles Hamilton - Normalcy [Album]

Normalcy finally dropped this morning and I'm excited to see what Charles Hamilton has to offer for this second album. Alot of people get on him about his apparent obsession over sonic but I think that this will be a really good Album. However I doubt that it will top, The Pink Lavalamp, which was one of the best pieces of work I think we'll ever see from Charles Hamilton.

Choze & JustNice - Respect Earned [Mixtape]

So Respect Earned I FINALLY here and we're excited to say we've helped them get to this point. Presented by yours truely, Hailmegatron & The Eargasm featuring the whole NB gang, Quest, Hannibal King, Threatz, Brey Quick Treazon, Tru Dat, Ben Pramuk and many others. So I rounded out the information with a write up that's been going around and it goes a little something like this:
In 2009, independent artists rarely get enough recognition in an ever growing world of commercially geared Hip-Hop. Talent and creativity often goes disregarded, leaving once promising careers as unrecognized potential. This time, Choze & JustNice have decided to team up, and take what is theirs in "Respect Earned."

Choze is the leader of Portland based crew Neu Beginin, an Engineer and rapper, who stumbled out of the myspace music world and into the blogosphere earlier this year. Since, he’s done songs with Quest and has already been on sites like HipHopUpdate & XclusivesZone.Net. Meanwhile, Lancaster, Pennsylvania’s own, JustNice has been a ghostwriting for several artist over the past few 2 years as well as performing all around Pennsylvania.

For the past 6 months, Choze & JustNice have been hard at work creating the perfect project that will net them the respect they deserve. Along the way, they’ve found a crew of supporters in Sound Society, Hailmegatron & The Eargasm, who will be the official presenters of Respect Earned. Choze & JustNice’s Respect Earned also includes a host of familiar faces including TreaZon, ThreatZ, QuESt, Hannibal King, Brey Quick, Starr Spazzin, Ricky Jewelz, SugoiSounds and many more.

Charles Hamilton - See & Say

Charles Hamilton's mixtape Normalcy was due out December 9th. So we all know that's rapper for Christmas or New Years. See & Say is a mediocre track in my opinion. I expect some deeper material from Hamilton when Normalcy drops.

Day 7 - "Misguided" feat. Le GemDoir

Jon Hope ft. Taktix "Better"

Revalation - Heart of the City (Feat. M-Dot)

This joint is really something I can rock too, great efforts by our local talents Rev and M-Dot. Be on the lookout for The Revalation Will Be Televised: Commercial Interruption Coming Dec.31st Hosted by DJ Motion (of Coast2CoastDJs & MixTapeKings) and Presented by,, & Rev has the rest of the info for us:
"Heart of the City" is obviously done over the classic Jay-Z beat of the same name. In this version I decided to recruit some EMS help & got M-Dot on the track. He kicks off the track reflecting on Boston and the fact that there "Ain't No Love" in the city at times but he embraces love or hate because it comes with the territory. I continue on the second verse speaking about New Bedford, MA aka Secret City and I go into detail about lack of love and support as well within the city for it's own artists and compare it to the likes of a basketball game with haters sitting on the sideline jealous while I'm starting. Hope you enjoy our spin on the classic!!

Sean Wyze - Vibes (Feat. Blakface)

Sean Wyze is another part of this league of great artist that are not only coming out of the west coast, but west covina in particular. As you can imagine, he's well familiar with Hawdwerk, Jansport J and Poetik Force. I got this joint a while ago and I loved it but we just got the green light to post it. No word on who the producer is, but well find out shortly. In the meantime, check it out.

Obie Trice's Special Reserve Gets XL Rating

XXL mag reviews Obie Trice's Special Reserve, which hit stores as well as iTunes today.

Beats: XL
Lyrics: XL
Originality: L

Obie Trice’s new album, Special Reserve, his first official release since leaving Eminem’s Shady Records in 2008, isn’t actually new. Rather, it’s a collection of songs recorded between 1997 and 2000 by the Detroit MC and Canadian producer and DJ Premier protégé, MoSS. Although that makes most of Special Reserve more than a decade old, it’s aged remarkably well.

From the scratched-up samples on “Welcome,” to the appropriately-titled “Got Hungry,” where Obie angrily spits, “I should have 20-inch rims on a V-12 Benz/Hangin’ with brand-new friends, all-flavored Timbs, hittin’ nothin’ but skins,” Special Reserve is short on gimmicks. Instead, it features Obie rapping his ass off about everything from death on the gloomy “You’ve Been Slaine” to survival on the hopeless “Dope Jobs Homeless.” Coupled with MoSS’s Primo-esque production style, the album is a tall shot of bare-bones boom-bap.

Of course, Obie’s pre-Shady recording isn’t without its rookie mistakes. The laughable “Jack My Dick” provides, as you might guess, way too much information about Em’s former running mate. Yet, O. Trice mixes just enough of his patented tongue-in-cheek playfulness on the self-defining “I Am” to make it easy to see why Eminem was so impressed by him at the turn of the century. Cheers to this Special Reserve. —Chris Yuscavage

Hawdwerk & Jansport J: The Common Ground

Hawdwerk, Jansport J, Poetik Force, El Prez & DNEZ all it tear up on stage at The Common Ground. The whole set is live. The performance for WOW was just... the epitome of the word live. Hawdwerk & Jansport continue to kill the west coast. If you have downloaded High Power Moves or bought a physical copy (for only 11$) then please, do yourself a favor and familiarize yourself with HPM.

Mos Def: Tim Westwood Interview

This whole interview is just classic. Mos Def never fails to shock me. I never thought I'd hear him say the words "I like gucci" but his whole philosophy is something everyone needs to take into account and really consider the co-existence of both the pop side of hip hop as well as the soul side. On another note... did anybody else know that Tim is 52?

Quest - Love Until We Bleed (Feat. Lykke Li)

Quest comes back for round 2 this week to bring us a dope love song with Lykke Li's Until We Bleed. Quest tears this one up. His verses are really getting serious. Definitely a track you don't want to be caught without.

Mos Def: DJ Semtex Interview Pt. 1

DJ Semtex:
Mos Def hit the UK recently, and he passed through my 1xtra radio show on the eve of copping his Grammy Nominations.

Mos talks on:

*His approach to making albums.
*That Mos/J Cole/Jay Electronica/Talib Kweli collabo.
*The genius of Slick Rick.
*Mos Def vs. Hollywood
*Turning down a role in 'Tropic Of Thunder'.

and more.

Poetik Force - Keep Runnin (Feat. Sean Wyze & Blakface) (Prod. by Jansport J)

Poetik Force is currently crafting a brand new free album that will be presented by us here at sound society. Poetik Force's Album MaryJane will be released early 2010, but not release date is set as of yet. Jansport J, gives us some additional details below.

Jansport J:
New music for ya. Fresh off his guest verse on HPM's "That Spliff", the homie Poetik Force is releasing his first single from his upcoming album "The Mary Jane LP" which will be dropping first quarter 2010. This track features Blakface and Sean Wyze, and is produced by yours truly. All based out of West Covina, CA. Pow!

Quest - Trouble

Quest just owned Q-Tip's Renaissance Rap. This song is amazing. I can't say enough about this song, so I'll just say nothing. Quest > ______. End.

Lupe Fiasco: Just The Facts [PSA]

This was released about an hour ago from by guessed it, Lupe Fiasco.

Hi guys...Lupe Here...
There seems to be a lot...A LOT...of misconception and misguided info floating around the for the sake of clarity and so that everyone (HOPEFULLY) will be on the same page let me reaffirm and debunk some things and just turn down the general noise that is surrounding Lupe Fiasco...thats me...

My Third Album is Titled "LASERS" not "WE ARE LASERS" or "LUPE.N.D."...

"LASERS" is NOT my last and final album...

"LASERS" does NOT drop in 2009...

"SOLAR MIDNITE" is NOT a single off of "LASERS"...Nor was it intended to be apart of "LASERS" project...

"SOLAR MIDNITE" was exclusively done at the request of the Twilight: New Moon Team to be apart of their film, motion picture soundtrack and as a vehicle to promote the film...NOT TO PROMOTE "LASERS"...

I produced "SOLAR MIDNITE"

I'm not SELLING OUT by doing a song for NEW MOON...

People thought I "SOLD OUT" when I did "Kick, Push"...

I've done ROCK or ROCK-like records on all of my previous albums...i.e. "The Instrumental" "Hello/Goodbye"...

Enemy Of The State was NOT, NOT, NOT meant to be an stop (to the ungrateful among you) TREATING it like one...

Its more noise out there and stupid rumor but I really don't have the stamina...

Lupe Fiasco - Solar Midnite

Rickie Jacobs x XV- The Questions

Here's an unreleased track from Rickie Jacobs and XV that was supposed to be featured on XV's Planet Squaria mixtape but apparently Rickie Jacobs didn't make the final cut. 2 years later Rickie found the original session. This joint is nice and layed back though, still sounds fresh to today.

Youngs of Kick Game Proper - Kinda Like a Big Deal Freestyle

Youngs, one half of "Kick Game Proper" hit me with this today. First impressions..Dude can straight out spit it. Ill be on the lookout for more from him.

Novel x Joell Ortiz x Cri$tyle “Stressful”

Joell Ortiz and Novel have teamed up for their upcoming mixtape titled "Defying The Predictable" Heres the first leak in which the duo goes in over Drake's "Successful" assisted by Cri$tyle vocals.

MaG - This Ain't Rap (Prod. By Remot)

We've gotten a few things from MaG in the past but this song really stands out. His delivery reminds me a little bit of Rickie Jacobs or even J.Rocwell, which are good names to be compared to. MaG shows that has a good set of skills with the mic on this one. This song is off his EP I Ain't Goin' Back to Retail!. We'll definately be watching out for MaG on December 22nd.
In the next two weeks, MaG will be dropping an album that has been in the works for over a year and a half now. The LP is titled "I Ain't Goin' Back to Retail!" and will be released on December 22nd for free download via and

Brey Quick - All The Way Skyed Up

This joint got absolutely buried in my mail the other day, so the delivery on this was a little late. But anyways, Brey Quick had previously planned to release his mixtape #SkyedUp this year but those plans have changed for the time being. However, it doesn't mean you won't still be getting music. Brey explains:
The #SkyedUP mixtape will not drop this year... BUT, all of the music that was supposed to be on it WILL! Starting TODAY!

DOX - Keeper (Feat. Bricks Bryson)

DOX rips it up once again with a feature from Brooklyn's own Bricks Bryson. Only thing that I have to say is... Can we get a mixtape from DOX?

Jabee - Meditation (Remix) (Ft. Info-Red)

I like this new Jabee joint. Its gotta dope style to it. Some people might not appreciate the style, which reminds me of some real old school, throwback type of production, but I liked this joint. You should check out the info as well as the song below.

Via Mando (Manager of Jabee & Info-Red)
Oklahoma native, Jabee and Dallas' finest, Info-Red have teamed up with the help from Dj Chips to create "Meditation [remix]" - with the smooth flow from Jabee & the sharp lyrical genius from Info-Red, it only made sense that they team up and create this remix track. This is the beginning of Jabee & Info-Red's team up, as they will create a mixtape (sponsored by Fur Face Boy : this coming January 2010! Stay tuned but til then enjoy, this track!

High Power Moves Hard Copies Are Now Available!

We've pretty much wrapped up the High Power Moves experience (well on the East coast, the West coast will probably see a few more shows and performances from Hawdwerk & Jansport J). But before we close this chapter in the High Power Moves saga we'd like to bring you the opportunity to buy a physical copy of High Power Moves. You can still download it for free, but for 11$, you can get a physical copy of one of the best albums of 2009.

Choze & JustNice - Make Moves (Prod. By Klash)

We've got another Choze & JustNice track produced by Klash. We've never seen anything from Klash but this track was done really well so I'm excited to see what else he's got to offer. Choze & JustNice get their reflection on, letting everybody know who is (and isn't) making moves. No doubt a dope record. For some more info on the mixtape where this song came from, I checked out Klash's Blog.

"Ok so Pharrell started this website called where artist can showcase their art. painting modeling photography music, you name it its here. well heres the the first official mixtape from the site. Pharrell was not involved with making the music but he did pick the songs on the mixtape. check it out. Im one of the producers on there. its called "Make Moves" [by] Choze & JustNice. Shouts out to for the whole thing coming together. Look forward to working with them again."
DOWNLOAD: Make Moves | Presents: Art St. [Mixtape]

Cory Gunz - Cannon [Video]

It might seem odd, seeing a Cory Gunz post from us but we've been keeping our eye out for things like this. This video is not only dope, the song is definitely helping its cause with Gunz tearing the beat up. Directed by John Colombo, who is also responsible for Los' I can Transform Ya video.

December 4, 2009

Empire - 1 Thing Wrong

Empire is a group out of Toronto that recent released their album Get It, which is now on itunes. 1 Thing Wrong is the third single. I think the song could be better but its a solid effort none the less, keep an eye out for them in the future.

December 2, 2009

King I Divine - Crown Jewelz Pt. 2 [Mixtape]

I took a day to listen to this whole beat tape myself and I have to say I'm impressed with what King I Divine has put together. The beats have a lot of old school soul and horn samples that you may find in your parents or even grandparents room. It makes for some quality Hip Hop, believe me. His production is almost reminiscent of a young Jansport J, I'd imagine. If you want some real laid back production get at King I Divine as well as this Crown Jewelz Pt. 2 Beat tape.

Jay Greedy - Hennesy Joint (Feat. Raheem Devaughn)

I want to get to the track quickly but first let me give you some info on Jay Greedy. Jay Greedy is a 19 year old out of Chicago, who works with an indie label known as the Angry Hero Music Group. Angry Hero Music Group was founded by URB magazine. Now moving on to the track, Jay Greedy definitely has some good taste with this one and I would highly recommend you check this joint out. Long term, I'm interested to see which direction Jay Greedy moves towards because his single, Fake I.D., felt like a cliche and didn't impress me much. However, this song, showcases a lot more of his talents and it's definitely captured our interest.

December 1, 2009

Gerald Walker - Its All Fun And Games... (Prod. Slot-A)

Hands down, Gerald Walker makes some of the best music out there. From what I know, he's still unsigned as well, which is somewhat hard to believe. Gerald Walker's audience goes beyond the Hip Hop & Rap movement. Honestly, he has the ability to make a new genre of music, probably standing besides the likes of Kid Cudi, The Cool Kids & XV. This song is dope, as are ALL the other Gerald Walker songs we've posted. By now, you shouldn't even be surprised.

DOX - Love Gets Lost (Feat. Apryl Williams)

The last time we heard from DOX he hit us with the track "Midas Touch" which was definitely a while ago. But now DOX is back with Love Gets Lost, which is exactly the type of song I knew he had the ability to make. DOX switches up his style to bring us a reflective type track that shows off his versatility. On the other side of things, the hook was on point and I see Apryl Williams getting a lot more collaboration offers in the future.

Revalation - "Net" Worth

Ok so here we have Revalation of EMS going in on Jae Millz's Bring It Back instrumental for about 2 minutes and some change. Rev has a pretty deep description of both his new project and the song below so I'll skip repeating his info and say I like the concept and feel of the song. My only criticisms would be that the focus of it was a little narrow. I hope to see Rev continue to progress on the mixtape however. Overall I'd encourage you to take a look.

About the Mixtape: I'm leaking a new joint in hopes that you can help me out to promote my upcoming mixtape "The Revalation Will Be Televised: Commercial Interruption" Coming Dec. 31st!!! This will be the first in my "The Revalation Will Be Televised" series. Originally I was only gonna do one with that title but came up with an idea to connect the tapes and give them that old school series feel where all the tapes have a connection & show a different sides of me as an artist. Commercial Interruption will be more of my commercial side (meaning the tracks will have commercial appeal or be on industry beats)

About the song "Net" Worth: This song is a representation of the New Era in Hip-Hop where the Internet has made it possible for indie artists, like myself, to compete for noteriety in an overly saturated "commercial market." The internet evens the game out just enough for this new generation of up and coming MC's to have a voice. With that said, I give you "Net" Worth, a play on words of course but also a reflection of my personal thoughts of the game and the people who don't support me, yet want something from me at the end of the day. So here's to them motherfuckers!! Time to get RAW!! 2:30 of STRAIGHT SPITTIN'!!

NeakO - Popular Demand

NeakO is keeping the ball rolling after dropping the Rubix Cube: Blue Edition with another mixtape, Junk Food, which will feature a lineup of popular beats around Hip-Hop. It has no release date yet but it will be brought to you by 2DopeBoyz.
