Lupe Fiasco Cancelling His Mixtape Plans AGAIN
"I was plotting on doing the follow-up to that," Lupe said. "Simply because [Enemy of the State] was short. And I felt like it was space to do another one. I was gonna do another one called Friend to the People, but I started to get wind that people had songs they shouldn't have had. I was like, 'This is just gonna open the floodgates if I come out with another record. I know these dudes are threatening to leak records and do crazy stuff.' Sometimes I feel there may be too much Lupe music out there — whether it be old stuff or new stuff or freestyles. I don't want to have a ton of music sitting out. I made the decision to fall back from it and really focus on the climb. We were a couple of weeks away from doing that"
"With this Absolute tape, I had to tell him straight up, 'We homeboys, and you got all this old music, but it ain't time right now. It's too much going on. It's too many people with music they shouldn't have, and I don't want to get it clouded,' " said Lupe, who's putting out his third LP, Lasers, this summer. The lead cut from the album, "I'm Beaming," was recently leaked without Lupe's consent."
"There's investigations going on," he said. "So let's just postpone that and wait until we got a clearer time to do it. Even with that, we're going in to Lasers. The one thing I don't want with that is confusion. I want the message to at least connect until we get to the release date. After that, we can do whatever. Right now, it's Lasers time."

Basic Vocab - What They Want (Prod. by Tony Galvin)
Via Matt Conaway
On April 13th, 2010, Basic Vocab (JL Sorrell, Mental Growth and Tony Galvin) return with their sophomore LP, A Better Way, which once again is primarily produced by Tony Galvin (who has produced tracks for T.I., Young Jeezy, Trick Daddy, Trina and Nelly).
After leaking "There You Are" f/Donwill (of Tanya Morgan) before the holidays, and more recently, "Prescription," today we hit you with "What They Want."
Gerald Walker - Focused (Feat. Bryant Stewart) (Prod. by The Commission)
Just stopping by once again to bring you some new material. My Chi city fam Gerald Walker just released a fresh new joint entitled "Focused" in which he goes in on along side St Louis' very own Bryant Stewart. These two have been getting it in for some time now and will be getting it in a lot more often this year, who knows we might even see a collab project in the upcoming months. All I can really say is expect greatness from these two in 2010. Thanks you for your time and hope you enjoy "Focused".
TreaZon - Breathe Life 2 (Cover x Tracklisting)
HiCLAS - Everlasting Gobstopper [Freestyle]
So I have already determined that out of the 97548736490230921874 MCs that are going to hop on XV's recently released instrumentals to his mixtape Everybody's Nobody, only 3 rappers are actually going to be good. This is one of them.

Thirty Seconds To Mars
Well since Natac did it, I'm gonna post some other shit for yall too. I was first introduced to Thirty Seconds to Mars by the single they released with Kanye. It was hot, so I decided to look into their whole album. Lo and behold...shit was dope. Its by no means hip-hop. Not even close. But is hip-hop the only musical genre out there? nope. Is it the only genre with good music? HELL NO. So open your ears. You will probably enjoy it. This is the intro of their last album This Is War.
TreaZon - I'm So Appalled Freestyle
Dragonball Tuxedo TreaZ Kenshin aka The Human Being Who Can Fly aka Pick 1 Alias And Stick With It drops off this freestyle he did over I'm So Appalled. Mad cool points if you catch every punch he drops. Holla! Look out for Breathe Life 2 coming to a real hip hopper's computer near you.

eLZhi – Untitled (prod. Nick Speed) [Radio Rip]
So I'm about to go on a boycott and not post eLZhi's music. How you going tell us about Elmatic, drop 2 crazy SNIPPETS and never mention it again? Imagine if Frank Lucas put out Blue magic and a week later went on with the Red Magic next week like shit ain't never happen? Like you don't need your musical fix? Yeah, I'm reaching...but so what? BUT I DIGRESS....apparently this track was recorded in Nick Speed's living room waaaaaaay back in the day. he released it to some radio show, blah blah blah...here is the track.

Last Little Brother Album?
A new episode of Gordon Gartrell Radio! Phonte touches on his personal life, Tiger Woods, The Illuminati/Jay-Z ish, and the status of Little Brother. I wish it wasn't so, but the time has come. Little Brother is releasing their 4th, and last album. It's bittersweet, but I'm glad and thankful that they are atleast dropping one more album and not pulling an Outkast on the fans. "Leftback" will be the title and is dropping around March or April (hopefully). Whenever it drops, I'll definitely be purchasing it.
Peace, Clif Soulo

Doom: An interview with Eye Weekly
Via Throw Stones
“Cruel Intentions” written by Dave Morris and published in Toronto's Eye Weekly, Jan. 21, 2010. Illustration by Jack Dylan.
For a self-described supervillain, hip-hop MC and producer DOOM has a lot of fans. But with a reputation that’s steadily growing more sinister, is DOOM’s creator trying to alienate his audience — or does this character have an evil mind of its own?

KEEN-Â¥ – Zodiak! (Beat Tape)
By no means is this beat tape new...technically speaking. It was released sometime in early September 2009 but some how I just came across it. Speaking quite frankly....it's dope. Real smooth beats, but not that everyday-kinda-oh-its-just-mellow-type-of-beat. Yeah I know...hell of an explanation right? Well thats why I'm going to let KEEN-Â¥ explain it:
QuESt - Exhibit Q
Quest goes in over Jay Electronica's now monumental record. Personally i've been getting tired of the overuse of this beat lately, but Quest can definitely hold his own. Quest's mixtape "How Thoughtful" with DJ RTC is set to drop February 11th.

QuESt - The Reason: The Documentary [Presented By ImFlashy]
So let me give you quick insight on this project, back in December I went to check out the MULTIVERSAL show headlined by Shawn Chrystopher, Jovi Rockwell and QuESt. Before it was time for QuESt to get on stage I decided to introduce myself and let him know how I felt about his music, then pitched him the idea about doing a short documentary. He was down but we didn’t start until like a month later.
With that said that brings us to this short clip at his Barbershop which was our first stop on an extensive day of filming. In the footage QuESt discusses the blog where he first built his exposure with Waxx from illroots and how Shake of 2dopeboyz apologized for sleeping on him.

Copyright Criminals: A Documentary On The History Of Sampling
"Copyright Criminals examines the creative and commercial value of musical sampling, including the related debates over artistic expression, copyright law, and (of course) money. This documentary traces the rise of hip-hop from the urban streets of New York to its current status as a multibillion-dollar industry. For more than thirty years, innovative hip-hop performers and producers have been re-using portions of previously recorded music in new, otherwise original compositions. When lawyers and record companies got involved, what was once referred to as a “borrowed melody” became a “copyright infringement.”The film showcases many of hip-hop music’s founding figures like Public Enemy, De La Soul, and Digital Underground—while also featuring emerging hip-hop artists from record labels Definitive Jux, Rhymesayers, Ninja Tune, and more."Copyright Criminals airs January 19th on PBS and the film will be available from indiepixfilms.com on January 26th.

After releasing their debut, The General Dynamic, in 2006, Basic Vocab would go on to be featured in Vibe, Urb, XLR8R Magazines (among many) and most of the esteemed Urban Net destinations as well. Their appearance on Entourage resulted in over 250K Net plays of "Come Get With It."

Song of The Day
AGAIN. Phonte>>>Than your favorite rapper. Some of you might be like "Naw son chill...." but yo tell this song and his verse isn't CRAZY nice and I will stop blogging
"This is the last stop, last chance, last train to greatness
Last pain I take within my own chance
For Hip Hop, I feel I got to take a strong stance
I'm sick of that bullshit, hell I'm a grown ass man
I had to sit back, think, pause and recline
Gain a sense of myself while I'm caught in the grind
I could just throw some words together and call it a rhyme
But I'm tryna change the world eight bars at a time
That's what deep thoughts will do to you kid
Have you thinking bout existence and how hard it usually is
I'm kinda young but I ain't new to the biz
Just wanna hear my beats knock like past opportunities did
Phonte still burning it - rhymes so ahead of his time
I reminisce and see future occurrences"
