Rickie Jacobs – I'm So Appalled

We've missed out on Rickie Jacobs for the past few weeks due to a few mishaps with our emails (backups) but Rickie Jacobs is back and he's tearing up this I'm so Appalled track. I'm not really a fan of this instrumental but Jacobs does it justice.

Hawdwerk & Jansport J - High Power Moves EPK

Hawdwerk & Jansport J are back to give you the rundown on the making of High Power Moves, a few aspirations of theirs, their collaborations on the album, as well as their work with Dae One. If you aren't hip to the HPM movement, get familiar, its deinftely something hip-hop can be proud of.
We're back. But this time, we bring you our Electronic Press Kit that comes courtesy of DRG Films! In the EPK, we discuss at length the goals and thought-process behind creating our duo and the album "High Power Moves".

BLCTXT - Acknowledgment [Mixtape]

Even as I write this I'm not exactly 100% sure as to who BLCTXT is. However I know Acknowledgment is a very dope project and you should take a chance on him. Lyrically the mixtape is excellent, production is smooth and the length is enough to sample his ability without committing to anything serious. 8 tracks is short but I assure you, BLCTXT leaves an impression.

Quest - Lyrics To Go (Prod. by M. Will The Shogun)

New Quest material produced by the homie M.will The Shogun. Their project is far away so honestly I doubt this song will stay on the project, my prediction is that this song will get bumped as Quest & M.will progressively get better. But below we have a statement via Quest about his plans for the upcoming year and what to expect so check it out:
"So there's been alot of confusion about what new projects are coming next from me. And I understand. I thought I'd break down the situation plain and simple. And this is the real. The next official project I'm dropping is called "The Reason". I have no exact release date on it, But I'm planning on releasing it sometime In January,Feburary. The project I have with MWill the Shogun will be released sometime next year April May. There is no official title for that project as of now,We are still doing a project however. Then will come another project called 'Fear Not Failure" which has no release date, or expected time of release. That's all for right now. I'm sorry if I confused anybody. "Lyrics to Go" is a track off of me & M Will's project due out sometime next year like I stated previously. I thought I'd just clear the air about everything."

Creep - Live Your Life (Feat. Saint of Tru Quality & MatTheEngineer)

Creep is a new artist on the site out of Oregon. As you can probably tell by the Tru Quality & MatTheEngineer (the artist formerly known as Choze) connections he's familiar with the NB Gang movement. This is a real dope track both lyrically and production wise so we'll be looking for more quality music from Creep in the coming months. Mixed & Mastered by MatTheEngineer (you can buy his services for just 30$).

Kae Sun - Lion On A Leash

Introducing the very talented and versatile "Kae Sun"

"The most captivating quality of up and coming artist Kae Sun is not the ease with which he switches from singing to rapping or the fact that his records are influenced by a variety of musical styles. But rather, it is his distinctively heart felt vocal delivery coupled with his ability to communicate passionately through poetic lyrics."

Hawdwerk & Jansport J - High Power Moves [Album Review]

Its been a good week since HPM has dropped and I think that the album calls for a review. Usually we would review projects with a few days but I really decided to take the extra time to let the project sink in as a whole. But anyways, for those who are unfamiliar with Hawdwerk & Jansport J, they're just 2 regular guys from West Covina, California. Jansport J is a mastermind of production and Hawdwerk is a lyrical machine. Together they've constructed a major Album in High Power Moves which was released last Tuesday, Nov. 10th. So lets get things started:

Originality: 9.0/10
High Power Moves, unlike most pieces of work don’t fit a particular mold. Neither do we find that when we look into the context of the songs individually. An average artist might feel like a complete project would consist of your basic formula hype song, party single, conscious track reminiscent flashback and repeat. Hawdwerk and Jansport J come out of left field with tracks like She Smiles that sing tales of an era that was probably before your time. The ability of create projects that eclipse just one time period and region gets HPM a 9 for originality.
Delivery: 9.4/10
Many times when we talk about delivery, we talk about the ability of the rapper. However in this case, its actually Jansport J who delivers. The soul of these beats gives the album a sound beyond just hip-hop. Samples prove as the power player here as the crate digging of Jansport seems to add a symphonic sound to the whole album, every sample works well with Hawdwerk’s delivery and rhyme style. Hawdwerk’s bars are definitely what brings the Album together with some vivid storylines and some insane verses that will make you stop the music and make you rewind it until you can put it onto you facebook profile as one of your favorite quotes.
Concept: 9.5/10
Conceptually this album is exactly what you wouldn’t expect from a FREE album. It explores the deeper and more realistic thoughts of the common person, without hitting any cliché’s or stereotypes. The ability to be sympathetic without becoming an absolute martyr or getting cocky/confident without falling into the “swag” movement is important. This along with an almost random order of tracks for this album allows topics to change at anytime. Life is, as the album is, unexpected, unrelenting and most people in their right mind will enjoy it.
OVERALL: 9.3/10
You can probably get by now that this album is crazy. You can tell exactly why the album took so long to make while listening to it. So many things seem as if they were carefully thought out and planned for their audience to enjoy, which is exactly how hip hop was meant to be. HPM draws a definitive line in the sand as to what an album is suppose to song like, so all you artist who are working on your free debut album, try to stack up. A job well done by Hawdwerk & Jansport J.

M-Dot - Backstabbers/No Turning Back [Video]

This video was got shot over to us a few days ago and I have to say I'm impressed, particularly with the No Turning Back part of the video. This video was shot out in LA and directed by Zach Voytas. Wale & The Roots Preform Pretty Girls

I really hate the route that the producers went with this one, Wale & Black Thought did well and the Roots are always dope, but the way Gogo music is styled, it requires a lot louder drum work and the smooth rhythm runs in the backdrop, but they actually flipped it in this performance which made it a lot less live and more along the line of elevator music. Producers messed up, good job by Wale, Black Thought & The Roots though. If you disagree then you probably didn't see wale at the VMAs.

Hawdwerk & Jansport J - High Power Moves [Album]

Finally! High Power Moves is on the loose! The West Covina duo, infamously known as Hawdwerk & Jansport J have devised an album of some absolutely major proportions. Its been in the works for several months now, with much preparation behind it. From twitter rants to conspiracy theories about freemasons, this album has candid hip hop at its finest written all over it. But without further delay I present to you both the album as well as a few words from Hawdwerk & Jansport J:
"First off, on behalf of Hawdwerk and myself, we wanna say THANK YOU to everybody who has supported the singles and the anticipation of this project. Your energy gave us energy to plug through and put together a solid album. So without further adieu, here you go"
DOWNLOAD: USERSHARE | MEDIAFIRE
"Feel free to tell as many people as possible about this project! Also, as you may be aware, putting together an independent album costs alot of $$$. For those who want to support this project in monetary terms and allow us to continue to do what we do, feel free to purchase a digital copy of the album on our bandcamp site HawdwerkJansportJ.bandcamp.com"

Cymarshall Law - Meteowrite (Prod. By Slaughtery Beats)

Cymarshall Law is a personal favorite of mine and he should very well be on your radar also. He brings his raw talent to the table through every track including this one. The instrumental isn't as dope as it could be, but Cymarshall tears it up anyways.. enjoy!

Leonardo Chop - The Little Shop of Horrors

Leonardo Chop is a new artist to the site but his skills look a lot more like a sophomore than a freshman if you get my drift, if you don't then believe me when I say Leonardo Chop has a unique sound. Imagine the styles of J.Rocwell, Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne wrapped into an some surprisingly entertaining southern flow. The lyrics are not at the level that we'd like them to be right now, but LC shows a lot of promise right now. Instrumentals are solid all around, check it out if you're in the mood for a new voice from the south.

Hawdwerk & Jansport J - High Power Moves Interview w/ The Word

As the HPM movement continues, Jansport J and Hawdwerk call into "The Word" radio show and spread some knowledge about themselves, HPM and some of their future aspirations. Marion Write, who has worked with Jansport J in the past and was also present at the show, has the info:

"Flo Deep Music Group presents "The Word" radio show hosted by Radio Ramone on www.lvrocks.com. Radio Ramone interviews the West Covina duo Hawdwerk & Jansport J on their musical influences, Los Angeles hip hop, and their debut album High Power Moves which is presented by 2dopeboyz and Kevin Nottingham."

The Ordinary Person's Guide to Empire State of Mind

As a Boston resident, I know that this is exactly how New York operates. After 27 times, sometimes the celebration its more about hating the opponent you've just beaten than being happy (which is only human I guess). Which leads me to another fun fact, People from Boston don't hate New York, we just think the Yankees buy championships instead to forming a true team bond, but ah well, congrats Yankees.

Gerald Walker - Everything People Say That I Am, That's What I'm Not

Gerald Walker gets a little reflective on this new song. The R&B type tone of the song is a complete reversal of what we're accustom to seeing from him. However dispite the fact that this song doesn't have the high energy tempo that is so fondly welcomed when it comes to Gerald Walker, this song is not only deep and its more territory that Mr. Walker has just covered.

One More Time

Yo, sorry for the second consecutive post in row that does not have music for your ears. But this deserved its own post.As I am going through my 300+ emails, I realized I got emails from people (not even rappers) that emailed me asking if everything was OK with me. These are people that I don't even know personally, I just wanna give you guys a special shout out and THANK YOU for even caring enough to email me. That really means A LOT, it means my job as a blogger is actually coming through for y'all and I am not just one of those blogs that get clicked once and ignored the next day. Thanks man, glad y'all are able to enjoy the stuff I post. Quick shout outs to HollywoodFLOSS, Tyler at AboveGround Magazine, and ThreatZ. Damn, wish I had a brother named Ray-ray, so I could shout him out too. Holla!

A Quick Little Update For Y'all

Whats that picture got to do with anything? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Its pretty cool though, right? I am still alive, and I would like to apologize to the many fans of Sound Society (you know how bloggers exaggerate), and my co-workers redline, Natac and ThreatZ. I just started college this year, and weeeeeell....well we all heard the Asher Roth song (Nevermind the academics haha, because who actually does work in college, am I right or am I right?). BUT enough about me...I will be posting a lot more often now, and for artists reading this i got something for you too. If you notice to the right side of the blog -----> you will notice a soundclound music submission box. This is a lot easier to submit music too, but if you still prefer email you can do that too. (Don't worry, I will be checking it daily)*. I think that's it for now, even you have any questions or concerns please feel free to comment or email us. All the contact information is over there on the right ----->

*For all the people that did email, I will respond ASAP. Don't expect it anytime soon (I don't like promising [insert number] of days because things happen). Thanks to all the people that emailed and asked if everything was cool with I appreciate that. But in the mean time and between time check me out in the future posting that sonic heroin for your ears.**
